The Indian Ocean is neither the biggest nor the smallest ocean on Earth–most like the middle child in the family.
This ocean of many different moods highlights the ethereal bridge between Australia and South Africa. Head out due East of Durban, and your next landfall will be Western Australia at places like Rottnest Island, just off Perth.
For me, nothing sums up the two countries similarities, and this one ocean, more than the following:
Rottnest Island, Western Australia
Questionable care-taking down steepening slopes
Treacherous routes and past
Signs of the past easy to read
Surviving stormy weather
Land of immigrants
Sudden disasters, explosive outcomes
Rottnest: In turbulence
Unique Wildlife and natives
